Principles of Safer Space
Consideration of Others at Fudo Kamae events
We adhere to the principles of a safer space in all Fudo Kamae events.
Principles of a Safer Space
Respect personal physical and mental boundaries. Respect autonomy. Do not touch someone without their consent. Remember that you cannot know someone's boundaries without asking. Request space for yourself if needed.
Do not mock, ridicule, belittle, marginalize, or embarrass anyone with your words, actions, or behavior. Avoid judgments based on appearance, gossip, and perpetuating stereotypes.
Avoid making assumptions based on appearance or actions. Do not assume anyone's sexuality, gender, nationality, ethnicity, religion, values, socio-economic background, health, or abilities.
Give space. Strive to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in discussions. Do not override others' opinions and allow them to speak. Respect others' privacy and handle sensitive topics respectfully.
Listen and learn. Embrace new topics, individuals, and perspectives without prejudice. Approach every encounter and situation as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Apologize if you have intentionally or unintentionally hurt others.
What to do if you encounter harassment or other inappropriate behavior
If you notice someone behaving inappropriately or violating the principles of a Safer Space, intervene in the situation. If there is a designated harassment contact for the event, you can report the incident to them directly on-site. The individual responsible for harassment or misconduct may be removed from the event venue if necessary. If you experience or witness disruptive behavior during activities or events, immediately contact the instructor or any member of the club's board.
